Teddy woke up to an entirely different person next to him.

“Tony? What are you doing here? What time is it? I’m so confused,” he said, rubbing his eyes and trying to comprehend what was going on.

“Good morning, sleepyhead. It’s after ten. I brought breakfast over, but Barrett said you were still sleeping and gave me strict instructions to let you rest and to make sure you ice your ankle,” Tony said. “He left to run some errands and said he’ll be back in a couple hours.”

“Oh, okay,” Teddy said, still trying to wake up.

Tony smirked at Teddy. “He also said he trusted me to take care of you while he was gone, but I’m not sure he really does.”

Teddy tried to laugh that off. “Yeah, well, he’s a doctor and all that. Hasn’t let me out of his sight much.” Not that Teddy was complaining.

“I’ll bet,” Tony said, laughing. He moved closer to Teddy and pulled him into his arms. “How are you doing, seriously?”

“I’m fine, really,” Teddy said, cozying up to his friend. “The crutches are a huge pain, and so is not being able to use my foot, but I’m fine. Promise.”

He went on to tell Tony what he’d probably already heard from Barrett, all about the accident and hospital visit and his prognosis.

They caught up for a few more minutes before Teddy said, “Speaking of crutches, I need to pee. And I’m interested in this breakfast you claimed to have brought with you.”

He got out of bed, stopped in the bathroom, and then they headed into the kitchen where Teddy found a box of donuts from Holtman’s, his favorite bakery.

“Aww, thanks, Tony,” he said, opening the box before realizing he couldn’t easily stand and eat at the moment. He awkwardly hopped up on a stool, and Tony poured them both a cup of coffee before joining him.

“Ohmygod these are so good,” Teddy mumbled around a mouthful of sugar and dough.

After polishing off a donut, Tony turned to him and said, “So how is it staying with Barrett? We need to discuss things, you know. Like Halloween.”

Teddy wasn’t surprised — Tony didn’t do subtle — but he felt his face going red anyway.

Tony laughed at his reaction. “Ah, so we do need to discuss things. Okay. Spill.”

So much had happened in the past few days, Teddy didn’t know where to start. “Basically, um, we sort of hooked up on Halloween, talked the next morning and agreed we were just friends, then my ankle, now I’m here?” he offered.

Tony gave a sharp laugh. “Yeah, you’re not getting off so easily.” He thought a moment. “Even if you did get off pretty easily.”

Teddy rolled his eyes. “You can do better than that.”

“Uh-uh, no changing the subject. You don’t have to tell me every detail. Just the good ones,” Tony said, winking.

Teddy pointedly stared at Tony for a while until Tony relented. “Fine. Did you at least enjoy yourself?”

“Well yeah, does Barrett really look like someone who could possibly be bad at sex stuff?” Teddy asked rhetorically.
